Making the most of naptime!

I'm going to attempt to restore my creative juices.  Call it a mid-year resolution.  This new resolution of mine is to TRY to do something creative everyday during that so very precious NAPTIME.  So what did I have in mind?  Well:  painting, crafting, blogging, baking and brainstorming.  Basically something other than just watching tv on the couch for an hour and a half (not that is what I normally do, aheam).  What I have worked on the past two days has been this faux ZINC menu board, not because it takes that long to do.  It's basically because you have to account for dry time and a sick toddler who refuses to sleep longer than 1 hour!  Jami from Freckled Laundry  http://www.freckledlaundry.com/2010/07/faux-zinc-painting-tutorial.html has an amazing video tutorial that walks you right through the process.  I followed her instrucitons to turn this $1 yard sale picture frame into a stinkin' gorgeous chalkboard menu board for my kitchen.  I LOVE IT!

Oh, and did you notice the vinette...you know the overgrown wooden skimmer, lovely silver vase and the menu board all arranged together.  I think it's a sickness really.  I like to create vinettes throughout my house.  I blame years of reading Pottery Barn catalogs.

  2. Can't wait to see all of your naptime projects. Your frame turned out BEAUTIFUL with the zinc finish! I need to zinc a frame, too. I love that you made it into a menu board. Thank you so much for the thoughtful shout out on my tutorial. So happy you found it helpful!

And I'm so with you on the vignette thing...Pottery Barn does that to people! Haha.

  3. Is M* not reaching things on the table yet? I love arrangements like this too, but Jagger would have each of those things shattered in a matter of 30 seconds! love.

  4. J: she can't reach very far onto the countertops in the kitchen yet..she can just swat at the first inch or so so I'm safe for a while longer!

  6. Hee hee, I love the vignette admittance. I too am a sucker for vignettes, it's all I have right now cuz well it's a long story, let's just say I don't have a lot to work with right now so I rely on my little pictures! I'm enjoying your blog, and following. Best wishes to you and your family
